Expedition to the lodge among glaciers: 2-day dogsledding adventure

Dates

January to mid-May 2025

Length

Description

Visit cosy Reinheim lodge in untouched Tverrdalen forbidden for motorized traffic. The only way to get there is by foot, skiing or dogsledding. This trip provides a very special opportunity to experience the Svalbard wilderness in all its splendor with the help of our friendly huskies!

Day number 1 goes through wide valleys and over glaciers. Lunch will served in an igloo close to a very beautiful ice cave which we will visit. Thereafter, we continue over a mountain pass with spectacular views before we sled down to our cozy Reinheim lodge in Tverrdalen where no other human installation exists.

Here, we enjoy the fire in the oven and relax with a lovely meal while our faithful huskies are placed outside around the cabin to serve as our trustful polar bear guards. When darkness arrives, the non-existing light pollution from human settlements makes this the ideal place to explore northern lights and the amazing surroundings!

Day number two, we leave the cabin after a longer breakfast, taking another route home if weather and snow conditions allow for it.

We pick you up at your accommodation in Longyearbyen at Day 1 and drive to our husky kennel located 11 km outside Longyearbyen. Here, we will inform you about the trip, equipment and safety. Then we dress you up with warm clothes and shoes, get the sleds ready and harness the dogs.
Return to accommodation in Longyearbyen will be sometime between 3 and 5 pm Day nr 2.

You do not need any previous experience from dog sledding to participate, but you should be in average physical shape. The weather in the Arctic is unpredictable and can change within a few hours. With cold temperatures and wind the weather can be challenging.

Please note that our weight limit for these trips is 110kg.
