Ski touring adventure with pulks and huskies to the wilderness cabin Reinheim

An extraordinary adventure with our friendly and exceptional dogs, in the heart of the Arctic. This trip is for passionate skiers who want to experience ski touring in a way that fits perfectly with Svalbard. Far from all tracks, you will explore the Arctic wilderness.

Travelling the land on skis with dogs & pulks to our comfortable basecamp, Reinheim. Here we will stay for 3 nights and go on day tours to the many extraordinary mountain tops surrounding the cabin. Ski touring in Svalbard is not only about finding the perfect snow or the steepest ride, but maybe most about skiing in a remote and untouched land.

Day 1 We will pick you up at your accommodation in Longyearbyen and drive to our dog yard. Here we plan the trip, look at the equipment and safety equipment and pack the pulkas together.

We start the expedition and ski towards Reinheim. We choose the route according to weather and snow conditions. The distance will be 12-15 km.

Reinheim will be our basecamp for the next days. He we will spend the evening enjoying the facilities in our cabin with sauna and great views while the dogs will be  polarbear guards outsite.

Day 2-3 Day tours to the exstraordinary mountain tops surrounding the basecamp. We will choose the route according to the group, the weather and snow conditions.

Day 4 We ski back to the dog yard in Bolterdalen. We will be back in town approx. 17:00.

Regarding the equipment; you must bring your personal equipment (alpine touring skis/randonnee or telemark), boots adapted to your skis, and skins to make sure you get the best experience. In addition you need to bring an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe (but you can rent this safety equipment at our place if needed), as well as telescopic ski poles, a 35 to 40 liter backpack for day trips and clothing adapted to this activity. Our guide will have all the necessary safety equipment, which includes carrying a rifle because of the presence of the polar bears, communication (satellite phone and emergency beacon), and first aid equipment. In the cabin we have comfortable beds and sleeping bags waiting for you.

We expect you to have good knowledge of ski touring skiing in a broad variety of snow conditions. The slopes we’ll be skiing may include some short steep sections. Good physical condition is a must, as the weather in the Arctic is unpredictable and can change within a few hours. With cold temperatures and wind the weather can be challenging. A warm jacket to put on top while eating lunch etc. is recommended.
